What is going on
A running toilet means water is sneaking from the tank into the bowl, usually past a warped flapper or a fill valve that does not shut off. A weak or double flush is often a chain issue, low tank water level, or scale built up in the rim holes. Water at the base is the one to take seriously. It means the seal between toilet and flange has failed, and every flush is pushing a little water under the floor. Repeated clogs can be the toilet itself or a drain problem further down the line.
What we check
- 01
Tank internals
Flapper, fill valve, flush valve and chain inspected and tested.
- 02
Dye test
Color in the tank, wait, and watch the bowl. It confirms a silent leak.
- 03
Base and flange
Looking for rocking, staining, or soft flooring around the bowl.
- 04
Rim and jet
Scale in the rim holes and siphon jet that weakens the flush.
- 05
Drain behavior
If other drains gurgle when you flush, the problem is past the toilet.
Your options
Tank parts
Flapper, fill valve, or full rebuild kit. Quick and the most common fix.
Reset the toilet
Pull it, replace the seal, fix the flange if needed, and reset it level.
Replace the toilet
Cracked porcelain, a model that clogs constantly, or parts that are no longer made.
Before we get there
Turn the shutoff behind the toilet clockwise to stop a runner or an overflow. Lift the tank lid and look: is water spilling into the overflow tube, or is the flapper not seating? Tell us what you see when you call.
