What is going on
Outdoor plumbing takes a beating. Hose bibs freeze, get hit by mowers, and wear out from constant use. Main water lines between the meter and house can break from ground movement or tree roots. Irrigation backflow devices crack in freezes. Soggy patches in the yard, a meter that spins with everything off, or low pressure throughout the house can all point to an outdoor leak.

Before we get there
Turn off the irrigation system and the shutoff to the affected hose bib if there is one. Mark wet spots in the yard with a flag or stick. Let us know if your home is on city water or a private well.
