What is going on
A gas line has to deliver enough fuel at the right pressure to every appliance running at once. Most problems we see come from add-ons. A tankless heater, a big range, and an outdoor grill get tapped onto a line sized for a furnace and a tank heater decades ago. The result is weak flames, error codes, or appliances that shut off when others fire up. Proper sizing considers total load, pipe length, meter capacity and material.
What we check
- 01
Total load
BTU ratings of every gas appliance, current and planned.
- 02
Pipe size and run
Length and diameter from the meter to each appliance.
- 03
Meter capacity
Whether the utility meter can handle the added load.
- 04
Material and routing
Black iron, CSST with bonding, or approved underground pipe.
- 05
Pressure test
Line tested before connection and inspected as required.
Your options
Appliance hookup
Short run to a range, dryer or water heater near existing gas.
New branch line
New run to an outdoor kitchen, fire pit or generator.
Line upsizing
Main gas line enlarged to handle tankless or added appliances.
Before we get there
List the appliances you want to run on gas, with model numbers if you have them. Note where you want the new line to go. If it is an outdoor kitchen or generator, mark the spot. Keep pets inside on install day.
